What will be the next technical sponsor of AS Roma?
All the names in the running to replace Nike
July 16th, 2020
The divorce between AS Roma and Nike has shaken the world of technical sponsorships. At the basis of the parties' choice to terminate the relationship prematurely there are doubts and doubts, on both sides. The strategy of the Beaverton brand is similar to that of adidas, which in 2018, after 20 years, decided to leave AC Milan for the absence from the Champions League. The reasoning of the big brands is now clear: without the best stage it does not make sense to sponsor a club.
The history of Rome with technical sponsors has not always been linear: in 50 years, the Capitoline club has changed 10 technical sponsors and on more than one occasion even during the current season. Before Nike there were Kappa, Diadora, Asics, adidas, NR, Patrick, Playground, Pouchain and Lacoste. The toto-sponsor for the 2021-22 season has started in the last few hours, when the swoosh will definitely leave the capital. Footy Headlines has already drawn up a list, complete with percentages of agreement: Kappa (35%) has the advantage over all, followed by New Balance (20%), Puma (15%) and adidas (15%). A last 15% is dedicated to other brands or to self-production, as has already happened in the course of the Giallorossi history. Others, however, see ahead of Macron who closed the 2019 financial year with 113.1 million euros in revenues (+ 15.6%) and who has the budget to try the hit. The only brake is the agreement with Lazio.
To support the thesis of Footy Headlines also comes @Forza27_RS, for years a point of reference for the kits of Rome. According to what the football graphic designer reports, the Giallorossi are already in talks with Kappa to close an agreement and to start working on the kit for the 2021-22 season.
I have it from a source that #Kappa & #ASRoma have spoken about a possible new partnership. Still at an early stage & there will be other manufacturers worth considering, but Kappa & Roma could be back on the cards.

The outsider on duty - according to what the Gazzetta dello Sport reports - could be Under Armor, a brand that can count on a turnover of about 5.2 billion dollars. UA is an American brand, like the current property of Rome, but it is not said that the current management negotiates the new sponsorship agreements.
