The next Champions League will be on Prime Video
Amazon will have the best Wednesday games for a three-year period
December 18th, 2020
Amazon has officially purchased the Television Rights of the Champions League in Italy, so the American company, through its streaming platform Prime Video, will broadcast the 16 best European Wednesday matches from the 2020/21 season to 2023/24. The Champions League matches will be followed by the exclusive rights to the next three editions of the European Super Cup (the challenge between the Winner of the Europa League and that of the Champions League, usually scheduled for August).
The transmission of the Champions League in Italy is for Amazon the second sporting moment of the year, after in England, since June, Bezos had allowed free and clear watching of certain Premier League matches: all already scheduled and aware of the public, available on the company's app. The direction of broadcasting sporting events is increasingly turning towards online and OTT. In Italy, in this sense, Prime Video reaches DAZN, a service active since 2018.
