It's the day of the release of Unseen Journey, Hector Bellerin's documentary on his anterior cruciate injury: it will be available on the footballer's Facebook and YouTube channels. It will be divided into nine episodes and they are no longer than 23 minutes; it will tell the path that the Spanish Arsenal full-back had to follow between rehabilitation and recovery on the field, with testimonies and interviews (among others) of Arsenal team-mates Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney, then of Jon Toral of Hull City and surgeon Ramon Cugat, who operated on him and followed his recovery. The first episode tells of the days after Bellerin's injury, analyzing the emotional impact of the situation the player's choice to want to operate in Barcelona, his home town.
Director Charles Hoare and his crew followed Bellerin for an 18-month period, and the documentary gives viewers a unique insight into the player's mental, physical and emotional difficulties, explaining how complicated it is for athletes to get out of such a traumatizing event. Detailing gruelling medical interventions, recovery programs and his return to the pitch - including unpublished footage of Arsenal's 2019/20 FA Cup triumph - Unseen Journey focuses heavily on the psychological aspect of the player, struggling with an injury that threatened the continuation of his playing career.
On the documentary Hector Bellerin explained: "Unseen Journey shows some of the most difficult moments of my life, both physically and mentally. I really hope that (the documentary, ed) is able to inspire others and show that with the right mentality and teammates around you, anything is possible". Bellerin is one of the strongest full-backs in the world and is a professional attentive not only to his profession, but also to the dynamics of sustainability and fashion: personal interests that have made him more than just a football player.
