February 15th, 2021
David Beckham has announced that he will produce a mini documentary about the historical reality of adidas and PUMA and their rivalry. The title of the project is World War Shoe and is divided into three parts and will tell the story of the separation of the two brands, with the feud of the Dassler family in Herzogenaurach, Germany. By now, a release date for the documentary has not yet been declared.
In addition to the storytelling of the Dassler family and the consequent birth of adidas and PUMA, we will also talk about the global influence of the two brands, both in street culture and in the musical field, with the exploration of the world of the two brands in general culture, beyond fashion; characters who have worked with the two companies and also some athletes will be involved. The mini series will focus a lot on the reasons for the rift between the brothers Adi and Rudolf Dassler and the consequent legal dispute that led to the split between the two and the consequent birth of the two brands: Rudi founded PUMA in 1948, Adi opened adidas in 1949. Much has already been written about the story of the two Dassler brothers and there are several documentaries, including Die Dasslers and Adidas vs PUMA.
Beckham will work on the supervision of the project together with the production company founded together with its historic manager David Gardner and Nicola Howson, Studio 99, who has also collaborated with Boat Rocker Studios, Matador Content and Uninterrupted. He also worked on the Billie Ellish documentary on Apple TV and, according to Deadline, the production company owned by Lebron James and Maverick Carter will also be the producer of a documentary about Inter Miami F.C., a team of which David Beckham is a majority shareholder.
