Martin Scorsese has made official the actor who will play Mike Tyson in what was born as a film and which is turning into a TV series. Jamie Foxx will be the one who impersonates the Brooklyn boxer, as many predicted. The process that will lead to the release of the TV product that will consolidate Tyson's legacy has been a very long one and relevant details are still missing. The only certain things are the production of Martin Scorsese, the direction of Antoine Fuqua (The Training Day and The Equalizer) and the pilot by Colin Preston.
The controversial Tyson, who returned to the ring at the ripe old age of 54, remains so even transferred to the world of cinema and the media. The story between Hulu - the broadcaster who is making "Iron Mike" without the boxer's authorization - and "The Baddest Man on the Planet" still fills the American newspapers today and Tyson's recent request to boycott the series seems to have already received many adhesions. According to experts, the former heavyweight world champion will use Scorsese's series to "answer" the absurd Hulu story.
The story of Jamie Foxx's involvement is also in line with Mike Tyson's paradox. The 2005 Oscar - won thanks to a superb performance in the autobiographical film about Ray Charles - has been "active" on this project since 2017, while the first contacts date back to 2014. Foxx has worked hard on his body to look like the boxer and since last summer it has been shown on social media in a form never seen before.
