4 glorious Red Star Belgrade kits

In February, in the Europa League round of 32, Red Star Belgrade risked eliminating AC Milan thanks to two very good performances, so Rossoneri go on only by the goal difference. Presenting this match fans talked about the historical past of the Belgrade club, holder of a European Cup and 19 Serbian leagues. In the last decade it's often been little more than a bip in European competitions, but Crvena Zvezda (Serbian name of the red and white club) had one of the most popular and iconic jerseys in Europe between the 1980s and 1990s. 

In particular, the 1990s represented one of the most iconic moments for the Red Star red and white jersey. The Balkan conflict of 1992 is together with the win of the 1991 European Cup the most important moment in the club's history (recent, but not only). Boban's kick to the policeman made immortal that challenge of 12 May 1990 between Dinamo Zagreb and Red Star Belgrade, but throughout history, the red and white stripes of the Serbian club were connected to many important moments for European football. 

May 12, 1990 (1990)

One of the great crossroads of football and politics took place on May 12, 1990 in Zagreb, at the Maksimir Stadium, during Dinamo Zagreb-Red Star Belgrade. After a raid by Red Star fans in the Dinamo sector, the Yugoslav police broke in to stop the clashes and the game was interrupted, with the fights between officers and fans that also involved the players: the photo in which Zvonimir Boban, captain of Dynamo, kicked a police officer, has became famous. The Red Star played that year in the classic red and white jersey, sponsored by PUMA, and in which the white collar stood out - as in many other historical models of the Serbian club. Another detail was the red that colored the back of the sleeve, so as to have the front white and the back red. 

 Champions Cup in Bari (1991)

A year after Italia '90, San Nicola stadium in Bari was back in the world as a protagonist thanks to the European Cup, whose final, in 1991, was held in Puglia. Olympique Marseille and Red Star Belgrade were in contention. The Serbs were one of the strongest teams in Europe at the time: goalkeeper Stojanovic, a very young Sinisa Mihajlovic, winger Savicevic, bomber Pancev. The Red Star won on penalties after a 0-0 draw in both regulation time and overtime, and in the end, he found himself winning thanks to the two saves of Stojanovic, the captain who raised the cup in front of more than 25 thousand Serbian fans who arrived in Bari. That challenge forever immortalized, in the history of football, the red and white jersey of the Red Star, in that edition with wide stripes (as they went in the Nineties), although most of all, in that final the goalkeeper uniform of Stojanovic stole the attention. 

The fog match (1988)

At Marakana on 9 November 1988, AC Milan challenged Red Star Belgrade in the European Cup round of 16:  after a few years, the Belgrade team would conquer Europe in Bari. After the 1-1 san siro, Sacchi's AC Milan went to Belgrade to play a very complicated match, in which the red and white jerseys of the opponents, literally, can not be seen. In fact, that European Cup race will forever be remembered as the 'fog match', due to the strong haze that also prevented journalists in the stands from observing and telling what was happening on the pitch. In this context, the referee decided to postpone the game to play in a better climatic condition. In the replay (or rematch) of that match, fans returned to see the Red Star wide-striped jersey. 

Back to Champions League (2018)

After a 27-year absence, between missed qualifiers and forced exclusions, Red Star returned to the Champions League in 2018 - also included in the same group as Napoli. Fans of Europe's biggest teams have returned to see belgrade's red and white jerseys and legendary Marakana for the first time since the European Cup final. Macron, who proposed the classic striped template with thin gold straps alongside the thicker traditional ones, designed the uniform of the return to the Champions. The new sponsor Gazprom and the club's coat of arms were highlighted in the middle of one of the white stripes, surrounded by a golden line.
