The new Ralph Lauren capsule collection for Olympics Team USA
The (sustainable) garments for the opening and closing ceremony of American athletes for Tokyo 2020
April 15th, 2021
Ralph Lauren presented the collection of garments that will dress American athletes at the upcoming opening and closing ceremonies at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, postponed by a year (and with a few more unknowns) due to the pandemic. The American brand will provide the uniforms to the Olympic and Paralympic teams that will represent the United States at the Japanese event, whose clothes Ralph Lauren will also take care of for the closing ceremony scheduled for July. Ralph Lauren has been team USA's official supplier partner since the 2008 Beijin Olympics, and since that edition, he has provided the garments to athletes for the closing ceremony of the Games. The new collection follows the one Kith presented in July for American athletes.
Presenting the capsule collection, David Lauren, vice president of Ralph Lauren, explained: "We need to understand our responsibility to the planet we all call home. This is why we are proud to continue investing in a plan that sees sustainability innovations as protagonists". Ralph Lauren's items dress Team USA for every Olympic event and, perhaps, given the peculiarity of each collection, it's likely that this collection too can enter the spiral of resell that defines each merch of the Olympic Games.
