Gran Turismo™ will have a tournament at the Olympic Virtual Series
Along with other four games
April 23rd, 2021
One of the most historic car video games, Gran Turismo, will be at the next Tokyo 2020 Olympics. More precisely, at the Olympic Virtual Series, an Olympic championship dedicated entirely to esports that will take place just before the Japanese Olympic event, from 12 May to 23 June.
Along with Gran Turismo there will also be, among other tournaments, eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 (by KONAMI) Virtual Regatta and Zwift. To these, will be added a fifth tournament on virtual canotage whose name is not yet known. But as The Verge explains, neither the participants nor the sequence of the competitions of these tournaments have yet been declared; although, according to the American magazine, the ICO (the Olympic team) is in dialogue with some of the world sports federations in order to be able to insert the respective eSports reference in the next Olympic Virtual Series.
Since 2018 there is a Gran Turismo eSports championship, developed and organized by Polyphony Digital together with the FIA (international automobile federation), with players from all over the world - the reigning champions, divided by the various series, come from three different countries. Tournaments are very popular - they have their own Youtube channel - and until the advent of the pandemic, which forced players to play the races online, they had physical locations every year.
