Umbro and Werder Bremen together for a sustainable sneaker
Made with the local Glückstreter store
April 28th, 2021
After the first release of 2019, Umbro has once again joined forces with Glückstreter to create a sneaker that reflects the passion of Werder Bremen fans. Thus was born the Highway WB, more than just a shoe but a clear step towards sustainability in the sneaker game avoiding the use of leather in a reworking of the Umbro Highway.
The insole was made almost entirely of recycled E.V.A plastic while 45% post-consumer recycled waste was used for the upper. The laces have also been made with 100% recycled materials. A choice that goes well with the philosophy of Werder Bremen, which has long been attentive to sustainability also thanks to its stadium powered by solar energy. To satisfy the football passion of the German fans, the words WERDER and BREMEN are printed on the two sneakers along with other symbols and references to the city and its team.
Even the box, created by the local studio weserholz, is yet another touch of class thanks to its wooden workmanship and continuous city and football references. Inside there are a series of natural products for cleaning shoes by Collonil, two pairs of socks and five pairs of completely recycled laces. A move similar to that made by Udinese, which for the current Serie A season has partnered with the eco brand Yatay to make all its players wear sustainable sneakers.
The boxes are available in limited numbers, while the Umbro Highway WB is available at www.umbro.de.
