The first hypebeast president to win a Scudetto
Steven Zhang is the first president to wear a pair of Air Dior
May 5th, 2021
Winning the Scudetto at 29 years, 4 months and 11 days had never been possible for anyone. Being the "quickest and youngest" president of Inter Milan to win the championship is an incredible achievement, the same one that leads him to tear his tie and transform himself into an unrestrained Curva Nord flag-bearer on the roof of his Inter HQ. Steven Zhang is probably the Serie A president who uses social media the most and, even if in some circumstances they have been the site of bitter controversy, looking closely at his feed it would seem that fashion is his greatest passion. He is the symbol of this Nerazzurri rebirth, but at the same time he is part of a generation of Chinese boys who discovered Europe thanks to their studies and who were struck by European style and fashion. Zhang is the perfect example of the millionaire caste of Chinese entrepreneurship enjoying European style, intended only as streetwear - too young to understand the entire heritage that the fashion industry brings with it.
It was February 20, 2020, in the middle of Milan Fashion Week, when Zhang in his Instagram stories revealed the first attempt to make his greatest passion and his biggest business collide: fashion and Inter Milan. Francesco Ragazzi had opened a collaboration between Palm Angels and football club, making the young Nerazzurri president dream. Nothing has been achieved (yet) between the Italian champions and the brand - with the exception of the third jersey of the 2019-20 season dedicated to Palm Angels - because Zhang's power and influence is not yet such as to take hold with brands rooted in the Italian stylistic fabric.
But even after a no-deal, Zhang continued to follow and live the Milanese streetwear scene. Leading Inter is the mission entrusted to him by his father Zhang Jindong - the richest Serie A owner with a fortune of € 7.8 billion - and being the first foreign owner to win a Scudetto is, however you look at it, a historic milestone for a league that is increasingly seeking internationalization. But to the nights of celebration - which will follow in the coming days - Zhang seems to prefer the parties of the Fashion Weeks, whether they are in Italy or China.
From Palm Angels to Gucci, from Marco Bizzarri to Francesco Ragazzi, from Versace to Moncler, from Giorgio Armani to Matthew Williams, a worldly life made more of fashion than football. While on the one hand he seems almost forced to wear a jacket and tie in institutional events, in moments related to fashion he can express all his idea of style, which is typical of the new wave of young Chinese who wear Ermenegildo Zegna sweatshirts and not suits because they are almost exclusively interested in the streetwear variation of fashion. And the testimony comes once again from social media, being among the first in the world of football to show off with the Air Dior, the symbol of lluxury streetwear.
As soon as he has the opportunity, whether at a party, at an event or in Appiano Gentile, Zhang shows all his style, made of Nike Air Jordan XI "Space Jam", Gucci hoodie and bomber, Louis Vuitton and Off-White sneakers, with Air Dior jackets and if this were not enough, luxury comes with cars - a great fan of Ferrari and Pagani - and watches, alternating Richard Mille, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Rolex according to the rest of the outfit.
New horizons for Inter Milan, who will try to open a winning cycle and improve their European performance, always with the young and innovative idea of Steven Zhang, the first hypebeast president of Italy, at the head.
