The new Olympique Marseille home kit by PUMA
The return to the great classics of the 90s
May 14th, 2021
For the 2021-2022 season, PUMA Football and Olympique de Marseille have chosen to honor the visceral relationship between the fans and the club and the heyday when OM dominated in France and Europe in the early 90s. "A shirt made with the heart, for all Marseillais" reads on the club's website, in the press release that shows the white shirt with blue details, a classic color palette close to the Marseille tradition. The new home kit reinterprets a set of great classics, starting from that of the 1990-91 season (with the Champions League final lost in Bari against Red Star) up to the glorious jersey worn by the players in the 1-0 final win. against AC Milan.
The design is very simple, with details on the shoulders that are clearly inspired by the adidas uniforms of 30 years ago. The V-neck makes everything very nostalgic and vintage, while the coat of arms of the city of Marseille stands out in the back.
The launch campaign "Marseille dans le sang" perfectly explains the deep bond between the team and the city, in a manifesto of love that speaks volumes about the influence of the fans on the performance and strategies of the club: "The colors of Olympique de Marseille flow through the veins of the fans. Throughout their lives they share this visceral love, whether they were born in Marseille or elsewhere. Each one is inhabited by a mood that animates the city and transports the players. 'Olympique de Marseille a unique and historic club capable of continually reinventing itself ".
Éric Di Meco, a symbol of the OL's past and the present of the city of Marseille, was also involved in the campaign. The transition from defender and pillar of Olympique champion of Europe in '93 to the role of politician of the Provençal city is short but explicit as the total fusion between team and metropolis could not be better.
