The new anti-fascist jersey of St. Pauli
The Germans' self-produced away kit is yet another socio-political message from the fans
May 17th, 2021
At the beginning of last December, FC St. Pauli had launched the first self-produced jersey by the internal brand DIY - acronym for "Do It Yourself". This weekend, however, the club that currently plays in the Zweite Liga (the German Serie B) made its debut with the away shirt that it will use next season. Not a lucky debut, given the defeat against Hannover for 1-2, but as always, the messages that St. Pauli send to the world through their shirts are noteworthy and go beyond the result.
The shirt is as always very simple, with the color choices of cream for 95% of the shirt and the details in dark brown. Instead of the classic congstar logo - jersey sponsor of the German club - a clear and direct inscription appeared: "Kein Fußball den Faschisten", literally "No football for the fascists". The new slogan was chosen by the fans, in all probability the most politically aligned in Europe: the team is often an instrument of political and social demands, with the largest part of the supporters radicalized towards the extreme left.
The color palette of the shirt is completed with sleeves and cuffs with red details, just like the writing "St. Pauli" on the back of the collar and just like the same message that is on the chest of the players also repeated inside the mesh. In addition to being an obvious socio-political message, St. Pauli also aims to be the most sustainable club in the world thanks to the introduction of the brand owned by the German company.
