PUMA's first genderless football boots
"See Them Later" with a unisex version and one for women only
July 16th, 2021
PUMA today presented a new edition of the ULTRA 1.3, the first unisex boots in the history of the German brand. In PUMA's "Faster Football" campaign, the brand has also included a model uniquely designed, conceived and produced for female footballers. The genderless fit and the creation of a shoe only for women is an important signal that goes in the direction of women empowerment and total support for women's football.
The ULTRA 1.3 was built with new cutting-edge technologies, which surpass even those that made the ULTRA to be the lightest performance shoe ever invented in football. Great players such as Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman, Sergio Agüero and Rapha Varane have already worn the previous versions and from today also footballers of the caliber of Nikita Parris and Eugénie Le Sommer will be able to do so. Both ULTRA editions feature a redesigned MATRYXEVO lightweight textile upper with technical carbon yarns and sheer Mono yarns.
The new upper combines with an all-new SPEEDCAGE to create a multi-layered support for rapid movements, as evidenced by the sketches shared by the PUMA designers. The upper features transparent windows cut into the midfoot to further reduce weight making the ULTRA 1.3 even lighter than the ULTRA 1.2. The ULTRA Unisex features an ultralight PEBA SpeedUnit sole with running spike DNA for lightning-fast acceleration and the women's ULTRA features a custom PEBA plate with conical studs.
Herzogenaurach's research and development laboratory has dedicated most of the last few months to research on the anatomy of the male and female foot, combining cross-tests to arrive at offering the best solution for both the unisex model and for women. Small differences with the ULTRA Unisex make the women's version different like the lower instep or a smaller volume upper to make it suitable for a female fit.
