Staple and New York City Fc together in new streetwear collection
A collabo born from the mascot they both share, the pigeon
July 30th, 2021
Staple Pigeon, the brand founded by Jeff Staple and New York City Fc, the MLS club owned by the holding company City Football Group, which also controls Manchester City, have presented their first streetwear collection. The collection is based on the pigeon, symbol of both the brand and the club, which inspired both companies to collaborate. The collection includes a sweatshirt and two different t-shirts featuring the club's logo and crest and the famous Pigeon created by Jeff Staple, as well as more eccentric items such as the pintrill brooch and a black and white striped scarf. The designs chosen refer to the layout of the New York underground and the route between Staple's headquarters on the Lower East Side and NYCFC's headquarters at Yankee Stadium.
In addition to midfielder Jesús Medina, the campaign photos also feature New York City's iconic fan, Omari, who has been wearing a pigeon mask every time his team plays at Yankee Stadium since the first official game. The collaboration between Omari and Staple Pigeon came about by chance, from an obviously ironic tweet in which the fan applied for a position as a model. Said and done, the fan was immediately contacted and included in the launch campaign, with his now iconic mask.
This collection is just the beginning, Staple and New York City are keen to continue working together, creating more new and iconic collections. Although still unconfirmed, there are rumours that Staple will be creating bespoke football boots for NYCFC's starting eleven next season.
