Nike's Classic Edition for 75 years of the NBA
75 years in the making
August 4th, 2021
After unveiling the new logo that will be used throughout the 2021-22 season, the 75th in history, the NBA together with Nike presented the new Classic Edition uniforms. A tribute to the three franchises that have been part of the league since its inception: the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and the Golden State Warriors (initially known as the Philadelphia Warriors). Three different jerseys to celebrate the teams that led the way on August 3, 1949, 75 years ago, convincing representatives of the two major professional basketball leagues in the United States and Canada to come together to create one of the most popular leagues and sports brands on the planet. The style is obviously vintage, Nike has used the designs and colours from 1946, remaining faithful to the original models.
The initiatives, however, will not stop there, in addition to the new crest and celebratory uniforms, the NBA has announced the return of Wilson for the supply of game balls, which will replace Spalding. The league has decided to do things properly to celebrate over seven decades of basketball excellence. In October, the NBA's 75th anniversary team will also be announced, a historic team that will go down in the pages of American basketball history. The team will be chosen by a jury of journalists, current and former players, coaches, general managers and sports executives. For the moment it is the market that is inflaming the NBA, with the recent transfer of Carmelo Anthony to the Lakers, but the premises for the new season seem to be more than excellent.
