After the summer dispute had with Nike, Chile returns with adidas after 27 years
September 2nd, 2021
Following the dispute with Nike that reached the courts, Chile has announced a new agreement with adidas that after 27 years will return to be kit supplier of the South American national team. The relationship with Nike had already been compromised for some time, the Chilean federation during this summer's Copa America had openly complained because of the non-payment of the 2019-2020 annual fee provided for in the contract signed in 2015. The affair did not end well, the national team played several games accurately covering the swoosh also the Chilean federation sued Nike's Chile division for 4,200,000 pesos but obviously Nike Global was immediately brought in on the issue. Now the national team wants to leave its problems behind and starting with the two 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Venezuela that will be played in October, it will wear the new kits made by adidas that will be announced very soon.
After 27 years, as we said, Chile and adidas will be back together, the last time the national team played wearing the kits of the German brand was in Spain, in the historic World Cup won by Italy in 1982. adidas was also present at the previous World Cup in 1974, but on both occasions, the selezione roja did not shine, not even making it past the rounds. Who knows if the inspiration for the new adidas jerseys will come from the archives, perhaps bringing back the simple design of the jerseys from the late '80s, but nothing has been presented yet.
