The Borussia Dortmund knitwear jersey
German club revives a great classic from the 1990s
October 8th, 2021
Borussia Dortmund have just launched a knitwear jersey, inspired by one of the most classic kits used by the yellow-and-whites in the 1990s. The jersey obviously maintains a retro style, and is inspired exactly by the one from the 1993/94 season when Nike sponsored the German club and BVB featured players such as Michael Rummenigge, Stéphane Chapuisat and Matthias Sammer.
A real throwback to the 90s when this fabric was present on playing fields all over the world. It is impossible to forget the jerseys of NR, the historic Italian brand, which characterised the scene in the late 80s and 90s. The knit jerseys marked an era for Maradona's Napoli, Baresi's Milan, the Roma of 'Prince' Giannini, Giordano and Manfredonia's Lazio, Vialli and Mancini's Sampdoria and the Fiorentina of Antognoni, Socrates, Baggio and Passarella. After many years, Borussia has decided to breathe new life into an iconic model that, although technologically outdated, is still one of the best.
