Premier League is looking for a Head of Sustainability
A new figure capable of reducing and subsequently eliminating all emissions

Making the world's biggest league fit for the future is the new challenge that the Premier League management has decided to undertake. That is why the English league is looking for a Head of Sustainability, who will ensure that all clubs are aligned and reduce their emissions as quickly as possible. The English league wants to meet the targets set by UN Sports for Climate Action, which has asked all major leagues to reduce emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and then eliminate them altogether by 2040. This is a difficult challenge, which is why PL decided to hire this figure to put the environmental issue at the heart of the decision-making process, tackling it in the best possible way.
A small experiment was already done last September in London at the derby between Tottenham and Chelsea. The two teams played the world's first zero-carbon football match, an initiative supported by COP26 and the UK government. The project was a collaboration between Tottenham - named England's greenest club - and Sky Sports UK. Spurs asked their fans to use public transport or bicycles to get to the stadium instead of their personal transport. But Tottenham is not the only club to have achieved something concrete and useful, Brentford a few months ago declared that the current first jersey will also be used next season. An atypical choice for a club, but extremely sustainable that will allow Brentford not to produce new ones. The new figure will therefore be responsible for speeding up this process, encouraging all clubs to create similar initiatives that can have a significant environmental impact, with the aim of also achieving the primacy of the Bundesliga, which aims to become the first football league in the world with zero emissions.
