Roma will play the Derby with the old logo on their shirts
A return to the first jersey after nine years, to the delight of Giallorossi fans
March 9th, 2022
New Balance has just announced that it will bring back the old ASR crest on AS Roma's jerseys for the derby against Lazio on March 20. The iconic crest with the Lupa embedded in the shield with the letters ASR chained together underneath was used on the Giallorossi's shirts between 1997 and 2013, a period during which the Scudetto, two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups were won. A choice that serves to rekindle the enthusiasm of the fans, who have always stood out for their strong opposition to the restyling carried out by then President James Pallotta in 2013, to the point of launching various petitions to ask for their reinstatement.
The new ownership, led by the Friedkin family, had already shown that they wanted to change course compared to their predecessors, listening to the demands of the fans, and in fact already this season the old crest was used on the fourth kit of the season, the blue one with thin yellow and red stripes. But the Derby will be the first time since 2013 that it will appear on the first jersey and it will do so in one of the hottest and most heartfelt matches of the season, in which both the Giallorossi and the Biancocelesti will play a decisive part of their championship.
