5 new jobs in football
If you have decided to hang up your boots but football remains your only passion
May 1st, 2022
All motivational speeches on how to enter the football industry often sound sensationalistic at times, and although they have a basis of truth in time, they do not help in practice those who have just come out of university and are looking for their first job. With the passage of time, football has evolved, not only from a sporting point of view with the arrival of VAR and the overturning of some rules, but also outside of it. Today, in fact, all the big clubs think like the big fashion houses and the applications no longer concern only the classic positions such as observer, sports director or trainer, but new figures have arisen that perhaps we do not see appear on TV or at the stadium, but at the same time are crucial. But what is the key to getting a dream job in football, or at least something close to one, when you don't know where to start? In order to understand a little more, we have decided to talk about some of the professional figures in the world of football that you may not have heard of, and that can point you in the right direction, even if you have chosen a university course that seems totally opposite to the job you are looking for.
Head of Sustainability
This is the latest figure to arrive in the world of football, specifically in the Premier League. Making the world's biggest league fit for the future is the new challenge the Premier League leadership has decided to take on. That is why the English league is looking for a Head of Sustainability, who will ensure that all clubs are aligned and reduce their emissions as quickly as possible. The English league wants to meet the targets set by the UN Sports for Climate Action, which has asked all major leagues to reduce emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and then eliminate them altogether by 2040.
eSports Manager
Competitive video games are a market segment that has been booming lately, with a turnover of around one and a half billion dollars in 2020. If these figures seem out of all proportion, it's enough to know that those who win tournaments of a certain calibre win prize pools of over twenty million dollars. Tournaments that football teams have obviously started to join as well, since most teams have ceded their rights to FIFA or eFootball. Recently, the virtual league has also started in the Pro League, the professional figure in question will manage all aspects concerning the tournaments and obviously also the management and selection of players, each club has about two.
Stadium producer
If, on the other hand, you can't help but go to the stadium every weekend to see either a final or an excellent match, this is probably the job for you. The person the clubs are looking for will become the point of reference for the creation and strengthening of technical-productive synergies for all activities complementary to the match event.
Digital Media Editor
Another one of those new roles you probably didn't know about is the Digital Media Editor. This person will be responsible for writing and publishing articles and news, coming up with original ideas and ensuring that all sections of the website are correctly updated. In addition to the website, the resource will produce digital content that is engaging and in line with social media platforms.
Fan Service
With the arrival of new stadiums there is also a need for new figures. Be prepared because this figure is like a wild card, so his tasks will vary, but basically he will be responsible for: managing the contact phase of the affiliates and/or subscribers, operational support in the pre-match and post-match phases, monitoring recurring cases and identifying improvement solutions and finally operational support in the management of organisational activities related to events and marketing initiatives.
