The process for the construction of AS Roma's new stadium has officially begun. After the full house against Bodo, Salernitana and Leicester, the Friedkin presidency has broken the deadlock and deposited in Campidoglio the first formal paper for the project of the stadium that will replace the Olimpico. The area chosen is that of Pietralata, behind the Tiburtina station and not far from the Sandro Pertini Hospital, and near several stops on the Metro B, an area owned by the City and not subject to any kind of constraint.
A resolution that definitively closes the Tor di Valle project, wrecked due to a series of political and administrative stops, and opens a new site that everyone hopes will be realized in a short time. Imagined using Arsenal's Emirates Stadium as a model, it will be able to host between 55,000 and 60,000 fans, although the final design of the stadium has not yet been decided. The curves could be squarer than the rendering now presented, following the English reference with north, south, east and west stands and corners instead of the classic Italian curves. In addition, the stadium will be located in a central and isolated area, a sort of acropolis placed in a dominant position on top of the tuffaceous relief in such a way as to ensure orderly inflow and outflow of traffic, one of the major problems related to the city's road system.
The area is covered by several stops of the metro B, Quintiliani, Pietralata, Tiburtina, and the proximity to Tiburtina station make it reachable also by high-speed lines, regional trains and buses. Despite this, Roma has given its willingness to study a reinforcement of transport, and has already had meetings with representatives of Trenitalia. The neighborhood should also change its face, thanks to the investment of the Giallorossi team, with a public park, a shopping center and a sports center, plus two pedestrian and bicycle bridges and other infrastructure useful for the livability of the area before and after the soccer game. Requalifying an area through the presence of a multifunctional stadium is increasingly important both for the city and for the club, which would be able to make its investment pay off even when the team does not take the field.
To date, however, we are still in the preliminary phase, there is no timetable, there is no cost analysis and their sustainability. The Giallorossi fans, however, who in recent months have supported their team in every match played, can finally begin to dream of their new home.
