Jack Sinner is close to a record-breaking renewal with Nike
From Rolex to Nike via Gucci, the choices that testify to the renewed appeal of Italian tennis
May 20th, 2022
That Italian tennis is going through a particularly positive phase is well known to all. In recent years, in fact, many young athletes have exploded, from Berretini to Sinner to Musetti. Young people who have managed to impose themselves and climb important positions in the rankings and reach hitherto unattainable finals, replacing the older generation that was not quite able to bring the talent they showed to the court. But something has changed, and proof of this are the many brands chasing Italian talent such as BOSS, which a few months ago announced its entry into tennis by signing Matteo Berrettini, and Nike, which has instead decided to invest heavily in Musetti and Sinner. And it is precisely on the latter that rumours of a possible record-breaking renewal have been persistent over the last few days: the American company seems ready to offer the young South Tyrolean-born revelation a contract worth 150 million spread over 10 years. These staggering numbers testify to the talent of Sinner who, by signing this renewal, will become one of the highest paid sportsmen in the world of tennis. Before him, of course, there are Federer with Uniqlo and Nadal with the swoosh.
But in addition to Nike, Gucci has also decided to bet heavily on the 2001 class talent. It is no mystery in fact that, in addition to Formula 1 and football, tennis has become a privileged field where sport and fashion can meet under the net. A sport that has always been a symbol of elegance, whose importance has also been recognised by the biggest brands, not only in sport. But the collaborations don't stop here because Sinner, in addition to starring in the commercials of some of the most famous Italian companies, is also known for sporting very important Rolex branded watches. At the Australian Open, the young tennis player presented himself with the Submariner, the Swiss brand's most iconic model. In short, from the sponsors' point of view, Jack Sinner is as if he had already won a major; now it will be his turn to confirm his performance on the clay of Roland Garros, one of the most prestigious competitions in the tennis universe.
