Nike unveils the ball for next Premier League season
A tribute to the 30th anniversary of England's premier league
June 16th, 2022
What will begin in a few months will be a historic season for the Premier League, which will reach its 30th edition of the English top league since its restructuring in 1992. At the time, the ball was made by Mitre and featured a broken rhombus in gold, blue and red with the old Premier League logo and highly visible sponsor lettering in the center, a design that Nike wanted to reprise to pay tribute to this anniversary.
Next season's AerowSculpt is based on the Nike Flight, now the Beaverton company's standard when it comes to game balls, features large Xs in the same colors used by Mitre in the 1990s and oversize Nike and Swoosh logos occupying two opposite areas of the ball. In addition, an overall pattern of small crowns was used in which the number 30 was inserted, a further reference to the number of Premier leagues. A way of connecting Europe's most futuristic league to its past.
