Palermo has been sold to City Football Group
The official announcement will come at the end of the month
June 17th, 2022
After beating Padova both in the first leg and in the return leg and achieving promotion to Serie B, another great news came today for Palermo. The Sicilian team is officially the first team to join the City Football Group, the holding company controlled by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the well-known owner of Manchester City. The agreement will be officially formalised on 1 July, while from the first rumours the new ownership seems intent on reconfirming part of the squad and the entire management, president Mirri included. A choice born to give continuity to a project that over the years has proved successful, in just three years since bankruptcy in fact, the Rosanero have gone from Serie D to Serie B.
The news was already in the air, Saudi emissaries were already present at the final, confirming the group's strong interest in the Rosanero. The inclusion of Pallotta, the former president of AS Roma, who in the last few hours had tried to insert himself in order to buy the newly promoted club, was to no avail. The figures of the deal are not yet known and will be revealed later, but it is certainly a very important agreement given that Palermo has practically no debts and has doubled or almost doubled the value of its squad with its arrival in the Serie B. After years of oblivion, Palermo will join Manchester City, Girona, Troyes, Lommel, New York City, Melbourne City, Yokohama Marinos, Montevideo City, Sichuan Jiuniu and Mumbai City, hoping for the incredible double jump that would give the Sicilian capital the top flight.
