Will the 2030 World Cup be played with jerseys from a hundred years ago?
COMNEBOL president's proposal on the occasion of the World Cup that could take place in South America
October 13th, 2022
While the 2022 edition of the World Cup will begin in Qatar in a month's time, preparations continue to be made for the next one and the venue for the 2030 one, which will most likely be held in South America, will soon be assigned. And it was the President of COMNEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez, who proposed that during the World Cup the players take the field in jerseys inspired by those worn by the players during the 1930 edition to thus celebrate the centenary of the most famous football event on the planet.
A suggestion, certainly, that would be unlikely to find real application on the field but could be used for some exhibition matches to mark the important milestone. It would certainly not be the first time that the design and fabric of the last century have been used during a match even in the present day, as in the friendly for another centenary, this time that of FIFA, held in 2004. The passion for vintage jerseys after all is at one of its historical highs today, from the block-core explosion to the emergence of new platforms dedicated to selling them, and reusing them during world competition is as crazy an idea as it is fascinating.
