After failing to get new kits from Nike for the Qatar's World Cup, a snub such as prompted Jonathan David to cover the technical sponsor's logo after scoring the 2-0 goal in a friendly against the Qatari national team of all places, the problems for the Canadian national team do not stop. In fact, the team's star player, Bayern Munich wing Alphonso Davies, has warned the federation against selling the national team's jersey with his name and number on it. In fact, the player's agent Nick Huoseh has blocked the sale at the largest retailer licensee of football jerseys in North America, Fanatics, because the federation has not negotiated Davies' likeness and image. "Sponsorship is the biggest potential growth area for Canada ahead of the World Cup," said a source inside the federation. "It's a tragedy. We are strangling ourselves. Sponsors are paying millions to align with Canada and being told they can't use the most marketable players in their ads. There is a total breakdown in our ecosystem of partners and sponsors.... Even though no one is leaving, no one is happy with this situation."
