Will Genoa leave Castor after only one year?
In place of the British brand will return Kappa, sponsor from 2019 to 2022
April 19th, 2023
Rumour has it that the marriage between Genoa and Castore has already broken down. Indeed, after just one season, the Rossoblu will return to Kappa, who left last year for the young English brand, which has, however, had to deal with numerous problems recently. In fact, it is no secret that several of Castore's customers have complained about various faults with the jerseys and delays in their delivery. Rangers Glasgow fans have been the most vocal, but Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bayer Leverkusen have also been unhappy with Castore's quality.
The cooperation with Genoa did not get off to the best start, as there were delays in the delivery of the training jerseys, so that the team trained with the old jerseys from Kappa until the end of August. Then they received their first official jerseys a few days before the first official match and thus had neither the time nor the opportunity to organise a proper jersey presentation. The delivery delays did not end there. The first team had to wait until December to receive their winter jackets, while some youth teams did not get these garments until January. In the meantime, they were forced to use Kappa jackets from last season. The supply chain's problems also affected fans, who were unable to buy their team jerseys for much of the season due to insufficient stock and problems with the online shop. Finally, Genoa's lifestyle and merchandising line this season was seen as poorly maintained and not in keeping with the history of one of Italy's oldest clubs.
There is no official word yet on the termination of Genoa's relationship with Castore, but the rumour mill seems to leave little doubt. Obviously Castore will do anything not to lose the client, in order not to jeopardise the publicity and reputation already tarnished by recent delivery problems. At the same time, Genoa, who are in the middle of the race to return to Serie A, would like to start their new adventure in Italy's top division with a partner they know as well as Kappa, who were sponsors of the Genoese from 1998 to 2001 and from 2019 to 2022. A partnership that could make a comeback after only one year of interruption.
