The new LaLiga logo is completely different
Farewell to the rainbow wheel that marked an era
May 4th, 2023
UPDATE: With the end of the 2022/2023 season won by Barcelona, LaLiga can think about the future and does so by unveiling its new logo, which after 30 years replaces the coloured wheel that has marked the last decades of the Spanish league. The new logo is red and also celebrates the partnership between the league and EA Sports FC. From 2023/24 in fact LaLiga will be sponsored by the new video game developed by Electronic Arts, taking the place of the historical sponsor Banco Santander.
Rumours have been circulating for days that LaLiga will change both its logo and naming from next season, revolutionising an aesthetic that has remained the same in various variations for almost four decades. The colourful rainbow wheel around the football will disappear from the sleeves of Spanish teams' jerseys and be replaced by a new logo that is said to be very minimalist and monochrome. In bright red, with two stylised L's and the words LaLiga, it follows the trend of many other recent rebrandings, but loses some of the charm that has always characterised Spanish football.
In addition, Santander, the bank that has held the naming rights for the first and second divisions for the past six seasons, will no longer be represented next season. Its place has been taken by the American company EA Games. Thus, the league will be known as LaLiga EA Sports FC, in reference to EA Sports FC, the new name of the classic FIFA video game saga. A profound change, then, that Spain's top football league will make from next season to revive a brand that had shown a certain basic fatigue in recent years after the departure of Messi and CR7.
