Nike relaunches Mac Attack with Travis Scott
John McEnroe's Signature sneaker is ready to return to the court
June 13th, 2023
We certainly don't find out now how Travis Scott is Nike's King Midas, and the latest task the Oregon-based company has given him is one of the most difficult and challenging so far, relaunching the Mac Attack to a new audience. In fact, the signature sneakers made for John McEnroe back in 1984 were never re-released by Nike after the SuperBrat's career ended and remained a hidden heirloom for collectors and fans. Until at least Travis Scott wore a vintage model, igniting interest in a silhouette that few of modern sneakersheads know about.
In fact, the Mac Attack, in perfect contrast to the game shoes that were being used up to that time in the temples of world tennis, were revolutionary thanks to their mid-ankle cut and shape reminiscent of the skate and basketball models with which Nike would shortly change the sneaker world forever. The launch campaign featuring John McEnroe also laid the groundwork for that of one of the most successful models ever, the Jordan 1 Banned. Now with the OG colorway of the Mac Attack, in light smoke and gray, and thanks to the intercession of Travis Scott who also appears in the launch images along with the now inseparable Utopia briefcase, Nike is preparing to ride the newfound interest in the tennis aesthetic. With the first release scheduled for June 23, Nike's summer will be dominated by a model probably known to few of you that has been recovered from Beaverton's vast archive.
