What does Cagliari's new shirt have to do with a Neolithic statue?
The Sardinian club chose the Mother Goddess of Turriga as inspiration for the new home kit

Cagliari's return to Serie A at the end of the Serie B play-offs was enthusiastically celebrated by all the Sardinian people and now all that remains is to wait for the team's debut against Turin, on the occasion of the first match of the season 2023/24. On the pitch, Claudio Ranieri's players will also have a new shirt by Eye Sport, presented in recent days and for which a statue dating back to the V-IV millennium BC, found in 1935 in a field by a farmer, was chosen as inspiration.
The color scheme of the shirt follows the tradition of the Casteddu kits, with two halves respectively blue and red and a collar that incorporates the same colors but reverses the position. At the center of the Home kit there is a series of cruciform lines that recreate the profile of the Mother Goddess of Turriga, a primitive statuette symbol of fertility and abundance. The object dating back to the Neolithic is a pagan homage to the divinity of the Earth, found in an archaeological site in the Municipality of Senorbì. The shapes of the statue are taken up in the shirt, creating a link between the history of the club and of all the Sardinian people with a territory considered the mother of all Sardinians. The kit created by sponsor Eye Sport is completed by blue shorts and socks of the same color, with a vertical red line on the shin.
