Where did Udinese's new logo come from?

Macron and Udinese have presented the new home jersey for the 2023/24 season and there is one detail that immediately catches the eye. It is not the wide black band that crosses the jersey vertically, not even the inclusion of the green details on the collar and sleeves - in any case an unusual choice when looking at the designs of recent years - but rather the change of logo, a tribute to the 1970s and 1980s of the Friulian club.

On the left side of the chest, the traditional circle with the laurel wreath is replaced by the Zebretta, Udinese's historical symbol used until the 1970s, which for this new design is reinterpreted by adding a new symbolic meaning. If in those years in fact the direction of the Zebretta's gaze was to the left, now the animal's snout is turned to the right, as a metaphor for a club that looks forward, towards the future and innovation. 

In the new Udinese kit, which is completed with a double version of shorts and socks alternating white, black and green, there are other details that celebrate the relationship between the club's history and the city. On the collar is the inscription 'Passion is our strength', as well as the words 'Italy's first bianconeri'. On the back of the jersey, on the other hand, there is a tone-on-tone drawing of the Archangel Gabriel, also known by the people of Udine as Angelo del Castello, in reference to the sculpture visible on the bell tower of the church of S. Maria di Castello, the oldest sacred building in Udine.
