I nuovi progetti degli stadi di Inter e Milan
The two Milanese clubs could play the 2028/29 season in their respective stadiums

The waltz around Milan and Inter's stadiums continues: the clubs are pushing to build their respective new homes as soon as possible to replace the San Siro. Milan president Paolo Scaroni told Sky Sport in an interview that the club's project to build a stadium in San Donato 'as iconic as San Siro' is going ahead as it was decided after the Superintendence blocked work on the second ring of Milan's stadium. "If in 2018 we had managed to convince the city council to build the new San Siro, the stadium would probably be under construction now. We certainly lost time, but sometimes obstacles turn into opportunities and for me San Donato is a great opportunity for Milan," Scaroni continued.
The San Donato facility is a priority for RedBird. They want to start work by 2025 so that it will be available for the start of the 2028/29 season. The project, which the Rossoneri have entrusted to Manica and CAA Icon, two of the best agencies in the world for building sports arenas, is not yet final, but some details can already be foreseen. The stadium is to have the shape of an oval rectangle, with straight long sides and rounded curves, and be spread over two rings, as opposed to the three at the San Siro. Seating capacity is to be around 70,000, partly because the stands will be closer and more perpendicular to the pitch, along the lines of the German stadiums. However, there will be no retractable roof and it will not cover the entire length of the pitch. Instead, there will be an auditorium and several theme parks, including Legoland, inside the facility.
At the same time, Inter is also pushing ahead with the project for its own stadium, as on 5 October the Municipality of Rozzano approved the PGT's variant, which also envisages the new stadium on the Cabassi site. Again, the Nerazzurri club are aiming to complete the project by April 2024 so that work can be finished in time for the 2028/29 season and the two Milan clubs can each play in their own stadium. Inter have confirmed that Studio Populous, who have already designed La Cattedrale on the site of the current San Siro, will be responsible for the project and have also provided some renderings of the new stadium.
