"L'Urlo del Ciuccio," a tale of Naples and Napoli
From the years of Maradona to the victory of the third scudetto
November 27th, 2023
This year has been the year of Napoli. Like never before, from many perspectives, but especially from a football standpoint, culminating in the victory of the third azure scudetto, the city has enjoyed significant attention, earning a long-awaited revenge. Urlo del Ciuccio is the new zine by Daniele Carrano - host of the book talk by nss on Napoli's scudetto, '33-L'ANN' E CRIST -, photographic and personal narrative that starts from 2017, with the historical murals from the Maradona years to his passing and the third scudetto. In addition to the over 70 photos in the zine, three chapters analyze the evolution of the city, the relationship between football, urban art, and tourism, and the emotion of experiencing a scudetto in Curva B. To celebrate such an important milestone, the zine will be accompanied by a special insert and a postcard with an illustration by Zeus40, a historic Neapolitan writer.
Back in 2018, Daniele Carrano named his first zine Urlo del ciuccio, when he came across writing found in the eastern outskirts of Naples, imagining a shout full of pride. The same pride that he always finds in the words of the Neapolitans, citizens and fans, ready to defend their land while acknowledging its limits and problems. Before today, it seemed like Naples had to live on memories, passing them down from generation to generation, to make the eyes of those who hadn't experienced Maradona shine but still felt him as part of their family. Love does not forget, and the memory of the azure number 10 is still alive. At his passing, that same willingness to share the two scudetti emerged stronger than ever. From the '90s until today, however, society has changed, Naples has changed.
