French national team uniforms for the Olympic Games

The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are shaping up to be the sporting event of the year, and the host nation is perfecting everything down to the smallest detail to enhance its bid, which is historic in its own way. Paris was the home of Pierre de Coubertin, the inventor of the modern Olympic Games, and the city of fashion - an element that is reflected in the uniforms for all the transalpine athletes who will take part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Designed by Stéphane Ashpool, founder of Pigalle Paris, they will be unveiled on Friday at a special event during Paris Fashion Week at the brand's atelier.

After being unveiled last year, the new logo can now be seen on the uniforms of 32 sports as well as on the uniforms for the medal ceremonies, training and leisure of the transalpine athletes. For the design, Ashpool wanted to "break the flag" with a more abstract interpretation of the traditional blue, white and red blocks. There are no lines, but rather blurred colours that blend into each other, creating a blurred, ethereal effect. The result is a lighter blue on an iridescent fabric that fades into hazy pink tones before building up to a more vibrant red.

"When I met with the athletes, they all said we wanted to look fresh, sleek and modern," says Ashpool, explaining how he wanted to refresh a visual identity that has too often been overlooked. Domestic brand Le Coq Sportif was chosen to manufacture the entire clothing line for the French national team, with the promise that the entire production chain would take place on transalpine soil. A considerable effort given the difficulty of producing technical fabrics and adapting existing factories, but one that goes in the direction of reindustrialising the French country to make the products more sustainable. It has been emphasised time and again that the Paris 2024 Games will be the most sustainable Olympic Games ever, starting with the redesign of the Olympic Village.
