One of the most important sports events for the city of Milan in 2023 was the women's derby between Inter and Milan held at the Arena Civica Gianni Brera. Not so much because of the importance of the city derby, but rather due to the venue where it took place. The Arena Civica is one of the most unique sports facilities in Milan (and the entire country) - considering it is located within Parco Sempione, one of the most central and visited tourist areas of Milan, and the fact that it was the stadium that hosted Italy's national team's first match in 1910 against France. In short, the return of football to the Arena Civica was significant news for Milan's sports history, and it was equally symbolic that the city's two women's teams brought football back to the field between the Arco della Pace and Castello Sforzesco. Beyond the city derby that took place at the end of November, the future of the Arena Civica has been shrouded in mystery, but finally new horizons for the structure seem to be emerging. Starting from August, the new football season will open with three professional teams in Milan: over the weekend, Alcione Milano defeated Borgosesia earning promotion to Serie C, now aiming to play its official matches at the Arena Civica. However, the issue is much more intricate than it may seem.

Firstly, Alcione Milano cannot play Serie C matches on its synthetic field, as entry into professionalism requires meeting various criteria, from the minimum capacity of the facility to the quality of the grass itself. This is why there has been talk for months about Meazza as the new home of Alcione Milano: a situation that clearly depends directly on the future scenarios that will unfold for Inter and Milan. Already renovated with the support offered by Inter, the Arena has temporarily concluded its modernization, celebrated, in fact, with the debut of the Inter women's team in November. But for Serie C, further work will be needed to obtain authorization for the use of the historic Milanese facility, which was previously home to Milan and Inter. Alcione Milano's season was exceptional: 78 points in 36 matches, 23 wins, 68 goals scored, and 24 conceded, thanks to the incredible work of coach Cusatis. It will be extremely difficult to match the debut in professionalism, but if the Arena Civica deal goes through, the Orange team could leverage a substantial amount of enthusiasm - just what is needed to face titanic challenges. Furthermore, if the Arena Civica were to be revitalized, it could set a precedent for the revaluation of facilities like Stadio Flaminio in Rome. There has long been talk of how the facility designed by Antonio Nervi could become the new stadium for Lazio, thanks to a project that will likely be presented in May by Claudio Lotito.
