Lyle & Scott made new kits for a Milanese club
They will be featured in the exhibition dedicated to the Scottish brand curated by nss sports
November 8th, 2024
Lyle & Scott is a brand founded in 1874 in Hawick, a small town in Scotland, by William Lyle and Walter Scott. In the 1960s, it rose rapidly to fame with its golf collection, worn by famous golfers of the time, including Gary Player, Greg Norman, and Tony Jacklin. But Lyle & Scott’s story extends beyond golf; in football, it has a modest yet noteworthy past, meriting rediscovery as well as a new approach with so-called "grassroots" teams. Lyle & Scott has managed to establish its reputation in the stands of the UK’s largest stadiums; the brand’s eagle soon became a staple of terrace culture. The exhibition aims to revisit the 150 years since its founding, showcasing how the brand has spanned diverse fields, starting from sports and eventually reaching the purest and most refined luxury, as demonstrated by its collaboration with Dior—still a hidden gem in the fashion world and on display in this exhibition.
The dedicated exhibition spaces will display four pieces each, offering a chronological journey through the brand’s history. In 150 years, creating timeless, high-quality classic pieces has proven a winning formula for the brand. For Lyle & Scott, it has been, and continues to be, essential to keep an eye on the future and on inclusivity with communities like St. Ambroeus. At the exhibition, visitors will also have the chance to learn more about the Kits for Clubs project, which aims to bring global recognition to selected amateur clubs in the football world. After launching the initiative in Mexico, Amsterdam, and Berlin, the journey continued in Italy with the selection of St. Ambroeus. The new Kits for Clubs campaign presents designs inspired by Lyle & Scott's long history, commemorating the brand’s 150th anniversary, celebrated in 1974, and 1975, when the company received the "Royal Warrant of Appointment" from the Duke of Edinburgh for the quality and craftsmanship of its products.
The Home jersey of St. Ambroeus FC impresses with its vintage look with white long sleeves that are directly reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s. A balanced piece between lifestyle and sportswear that will accompany the Milan team in its home matches. The Away version confirms some of the characteristic details of the first jersey, from the two logos to the all-over graphics, in this case with the Lyle & Scott eagle logo. The bright colour scheme, decorated with gold inserts, contrasts sharply with the use of earth tones. The goalkeeper jersey, on the other hand, is a one-way trip to the 1990s. A jersey that combines the heritage of the most important role in football with the sophisticated look that the number 1 has always worn. The St. Ambroeus FC crest is unavoidable, characterised by a dove and placed next to the Lyle & Scott logo.
