The Real Madrid collection for Chinese New Year is amazing
And here too, there’s a varsity jacket
December 20th, 2024
Beating everyone to the punch, Real Madrid is the first European club to launch its Chinese New Year collection, which will be celebrated on January 29, 2025 with the celebration of the Wooden Snake. Most likely, in the coming days, between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, all the major clubs with huge fanbases around the world, such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Bayern Munich, will unveil their collections too. The Real Madrid collection, enhanced by the adidas Trefoil, is particularly comprehensive: it ranges from tie-dye style t-shirts and crewnecks to one of the most iconic pieces of the 2024 football year that’s about to conclude: the varsity jacket. Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bologna, Sampdoria, and many other clubs have opted for this choice. If there’s one element that has united many teams during the 2023/24 season and the early months of the 2024/25 season – regardless of their league, competitive level, or technical sponsor – it’s the use of the varsity jacket as an anthem jacket.
Another interesting aspect of the Real Madrid collection is the predominance of a color scheme that evokes purple and white, two historic colors for the Merengues. These colors have appeared on some of the most iconic shirts in the club’s history, such as the Home kits from the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons, as well as the Home and Away kits from the period when the technical sponsor was Teka. A significant example is the Away kit, used for two consecutive seasons (1994/95 and 1995/96), which represents one of the most experimental designs and may have inspired, albeit in a vaguely recognizable way, the creation of pieces in this new Chinese New Year collection.
