2024 was a very important year for the football boots And 2025 will be even more so

Even before the end of 2024, rumors of a certain re-issue of the Nike Total 90 III became more and more concrete. Now it's official: the most acclaimed football boot in Swoosh history is set to return in 2025. After the recent release of the Nike Mercurial Chrome – yes, those worn by Ronaldo Nazário – we can say that Nike is on the road to redemption, after a 2024 that was a stellar year for adidas, who revived iconic models like the Predator Mania and F50 with massive marketing campaigns, as well as focusing on important, symbolic co-brandings and signature boots.

This means that the 2024-2025 biennium is already destined to become a pivotal era for football boots, referring to both performance ones, designed for the game of football, and the silhouettes inspired by football models. 2024 already gave us a preview of the spread of football-inspired lines in lifestyle fashion; one standout model is the one launched by PUMA and Coperni, which boldly fused balletcore aesthetics with football design. In short, without distinguishing between performance and fashion football boots, we’ve gathered the best releases of 2024 here. Keep an eye on 2025, the year of the football boots' ultimate recognition.

Sokito - Emerging Brand of 2024

Not just big players like adidas, Nike, PUMA, and New Balance, but also newcomers: we're talking about Sokito, the eco-friendly brand founded by Jake Hardy, which has slowly started to make a name for itself. First thanks to William Troost-Ekong, captain of Nigeria and global ambassador for the brand, who wore the Scudetta model at the last Africa Cup of Nations, and later featured in our editorial format More Than, worn by Héctor Bellerín.

adidas - Brand of 2024

The German company ended 2024 on a high note with the launch of Lamine Yamal’s signature boot: a pink F50, closing the year beautifully, just as it began, with the release of the Black Pack of the adidas Predator. They maintained impressive consistency throughout the year, bringing back the Predator Mania (and releasing a fantastic documentary about the history of the Predators, titled Under The Tongue). And speaking of comebacks, April was one of the most important chapters, thanks to the collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto.

Nike - Awaiting 2025

Nike is the brand that most shaped the aesthetics of football boots in the 2000s, tying itself to prominent footballers since 1998, becoming a key asset for decades. In preparation for 2025, a year when much is expected from the Beaverton company, starting with the release of the Total 90 III in March, 2024 closed with the launch of the Nike Mercurial Chrome, a silhouette that nostalgic fans are particularly fond of, but above all, a sign of change from what had been done up to that point. Until December 2024, Nike released, among the best football boots, the Nike Tiempo Emerald in April, but above all, the Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX TN, drawing from the aesthetic of the Nike TN and Nike Tech tracksuits. Three great releases, but, as always with Nike, we expect even more. We hope 2025 will be the year of a definitive turning point.

PUMA and New Balance - Steps Forward

For PUMA, 2024 was an extremely important year, marked by countless partnerships that helped expand its roster with high-profile athletes, despite losing Antoine Griezmann. The German company also managed to push beyond the boundaries of football with the September release: an Ultra 5 Ultimate dedicated to Ayrton Senna, 30 years after his passing. A strange and challenging year for New Balance, which, despite reducing its presence in some leagues (for example, in Serie A, the only athlete wearing NB is Timothy Weah), still managed to close a partnership with Real Madrid’s rising star, Endrick. At just 18, his signature boot was released, and December 2024 ended with a Brazilian-inspired colorway.

Kipsta - A Truly Eventful Year

The close bond between Kipsta and Antoine Griezmann represents a unique event in 2024 in the world of sponsorships and football boots. It was the cherry on top for Decathlon in professional sports: even though its presence is not yet as widespread as the top brands, the French company made significant progress in recent sports seasons. We don’t expect major things to come from this partnership in football, but the coincidence of what happened is still worth noting.

Reebok x Botter and Louis Vuitton - Farewell to Football Jerseys

After football jerseys dominated the Fashion Weeks, it was time for football boots. 2025 kicked off with the launch of the Louis Vuitton silhouette (called Soccer Shoes), a shoe already seen on the runway in 2024. And if Louis Vuitton has done it, we can expect similar releases from other major (or lesser) brands as well.
