Torino and the Italian National Team at Sanremo
Thanks to Rose Villain and Willie Peyote
February 12th, 2025
Football and the Sanremo Festival manage to captivate Italians like few other things. Over the years, there have been countless appearances by footballers on stage alongside the hosts of the Italian song festival, as well as numerous anecdotes that have become part of history. Do you remember, for example, when Zlatan Ibrahimović had to hitchhike and travel 60 km by motorcycle to reach Sanremo, arriving late to the third episode of the Festival, and apologized to Amadeus? Well, yesterday the new edition of the Sanremo Festival began, and football has already found its place in an unexpected and, consequently, unprecedented way.
On one side, Rose Villain was spotted just before the start of the evening wearing a never-before-seen jersey of the Italian National Team: it may be the new Away jersey of the Italian women's national team, sponsored as always by adidas, a sea green color with red three stripes. It features a very unique pattern, and among the updates, the adidas logo and the National Team emblem are positioned at the center of the chest area.
The other protagonist was Willie Peyote, who, unlike Rose Villain, wore a pair of Sebago loafers with the Torino emblem on the stage of the Ariston. This is the team he supports and the city where he was born and raised. Furthermore, the customized version with the club’s logo used a black-and-white loafer as the base. Who knows if the singer-songwriter intended to send a playful challenge live on national television.
If the first evening gave us these two significant, but especially unexpected, moments for sports, we expect that the coming days of the Festival will bring more novelties: there are many artist-supporters in the competition, with Bresh and Tony Effe standing out. The former is mainly known for Guasto d'Amore, a track that became the anthem of Genoa, while the latter is a Roma supporter: few will remember the line "For my city, I am Francesco Totti," in Mi Piace. In short, we just have to wait and watch the upcoming evenings of the Festival.
