The new training centre of Pisa marks a golden moment for Tuscan football
A new sports center is coming after the inauguration of Viola Park in 2023
February 28th, 2025
Being less subject to restrictions imposed by superintendencies and municipal commissions compared to the construction of owned stadiums, training centers, as demonstrated by the Viola Park inaugurated in October 2023, can become real nerve centers for clubs, ideal spaces to welcome both fans and athletes. Who knows if the new Training Centre of Pisa, whose works officially started on Monday, February 24, will have the same fate as the cutting-edge jewel, with American influences both in name and structure and use, signed by Rocco Commisso. The Pisa Training Centre will rise in the locality of Gagno and is a project that has been talked about for years, which will finally see the light. In the distant 2021, with a well-established bureaucratic process, president Giuseppe Corrado highlighted how the realization of a sports center would be a fundamental step for the growth of Pisa as a club. Corrado himself also spoke about how the sports center would greatly influence the team's performance, which, however, has anticipated the construction of the Pisa Training Centre by obtaining excellent results on the field. And, unless there are any changes in fate, the same results can continue in Serie A even in the next season, given the current position of the club in the standings, second only to Sassuolo.
The project of the Pisa Training Centre
The Pisa Training Centre will become the beating heart of the Tuscan team. Inside, in addition to the first team, the main youth teams will also find space. In addition, the center will include a headquarters for the club, a guest house for the players, a new Pisa Store and - similarly to Viola Park - a refreshment area. Seven football fields will also be built, including one that meets the FIGC requirements to host matches for the first female team and the Primavera, as well as spaces dedicated to the Academy to promote the development of young talents. Viola Park has set a real standard, radically changing the importance attributed to a training center: a place where true socialization can take place and from which other Italian clubs could draw inspiration for the construction of new facilities.
As EURO 2032 approaches, with Turkey and Italy as host nations, by 2026 the FIGC will have to announce which stadiums will host the event. Five stadiums will be needed and, considering the delays that characterize the construction of sports facilities in Italy, who knows if Pisa will not decide to propose itself with its owned stadium, whose project is planned for the coming years, according to what declared by the club's president Giuseppe Corrado. To date, the ten proposals put forward by the FIGC are as follows: Juventus Stadium in Turin, San Siro in Milan, Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Maradona in Naples, San Nicola in Bari, Luigi Ferraris in Genoa, Artemio Franchi in Florence, Bentegodi in Verona, Sant'Elia in Cagliari and Renato Dall'Ara in Bologna. And who knows if the definitive flowering of Tuscan football cannot take place with the assignment of a host stadium for the next European Championship in Pisa.
