Waiting to see him on the court in the NBA Playoffs with the yellow and purple jersey of the Los Angeles Lakers, it is now possible to play with a Barbie version of LeBron James. Or rather Ken. Mattel, the company that owns the Barbie brand, has announced the release in collaboration with the LeBron James Foundation of a doll with the features of the Chosen One. LeBron becomes the first professional athlete to have his own Ken version in the Barbie universe, confirming himself as a trendsetter even off the court. In fact, unlike the other action figures inspired by the King, all in their game jerseys, this Ken portrays him off the court, in one of his classic tunnel fits before arriving in the locker room. Beats headphones on his ears, well-groomed beard, blue and white varsity jacket with the "LJ" patches on the jacket of his number 23, a black LeBron James Family Foundation t-shirt with "We Are Family" written on it, sunglasses, Nike Terminator High basketball shoes, a fanny pack, a watch, and his well-known "I promise" bracelet. Of course, he also wears slim fit pants with a high ankle hem, a trademark almost as iconic as his chasedown block.
"As a child, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me, but also showed me what is possible through hard work and dedication," James said in the press release issued by Mattel. "Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to. That's why collaborating with Barbie to create the LeBron James Kenbassadors doll is such an honor. It's an opportunity to recognize the powerful impact of role models who instill confidence, inspire dreams, and show children that they too can achieve greatness". And yes, LeBron's doll will be two centimeters taller than the other Kens. After all, one does not become the King by chance.
