7 sneakers from NBA Media Day 2016
nss – new sports side
October 7th, 2016
If we had to pinpoint the day the NBA season begins, we would probably choose the Media Day. This particular day is, in fact, also when brands have the chance to showcase what will be the trends of the year and this means: sneaker, sneakers and even more sneakers.
The 2016/17 sneaker season officially starts with a controversy. Lou Williams of the LA Lakers commented in its own way one of the most talked news of the previous days: the presentation of the new Klay Thompson signature, produced by ANTA, a Chinese brands landed a few years ago in the NBA. Thompson was in fact photographed looking at the shoes with a not particularly enthusiastic expression and the episode reminded last year rusts between the guard of the Golden State and the Chinese brand – it happened when KT11 took the field with a pair of Nike, and was forced to cover the logo of the American company. Louie Williams shared a Instagram photo a user posted, wondered if, with other logos in place of that of ANTA, Thompson’s reaction would be the same. The excessive hype (to which obviously Williams was referring to) is an issue which has been discussed more and more in recent years.
In addition to controversy, however, there was room for the usual parade of new models, colors and exclusive packaging. We have selected seven of them.
#1 Under Armour Curry 3 Low
After the injury in the Playoffs Steph Curry is ready to recover the scepter of the King and to do that he needs the best performance that his Under Armour can offer. During Media Day Curry has exhibited the newest Curry 3 Low, much more minimal in design with asymmetric tab that promises to be one of the must of the new season.
#2 Nike Hyperdunk 2016 Flyknit
One reason of interest in the new NBA season will certainly be the couple Durant - Curry. If in the old version of the Warriors the Under Armour made her sway, now, the scepter will be shared with Nike. Among the new proposals of the American brand there are three different editions of the Nike Hyperdunk 2016 Flyknit: Elite, Game Royal and Dark Gray.
#3 Nike Foamposite Retro Royal
If we should bet on the best color of the next year, at least in Nike field, the choice would fall for sure on blue royal. It will be out in the next year in fact, a remake of the famous Foamposite One, in a blue slightly more lively than that out by now 20 years ago. In 2017 in fact, the line will turn its 20 years and, according to The Shoe Game, will be one of racehorses Nike for the upcoming NBA season in and off the field.
#4 Adidas 2016 Crazylight Boost Ghost Pepper
Adidas did not show itself unprepared for the first day of school. They immediately dropped the joker, making James Harden wearing - which this year will start as point guard and no longer as guard - the new collection of Crazylight Boost: the Ghost Pepper. The name of the sneaker originates in one of the hottest peppers in the world, and if matched with one of the classic celebrations of Harden, assumes significance. The design: Boost Technology with fancy jacquard, everything waiting for the Harden Project announced by adidas for 2017.
#5 Adidas D-Rose 7
Apart from the Durant affair, the reason of the main interest of every fan will probably be yo follow the rebirth of Derrick Rose in New York, Knicks side. For the news adventure, adidas – at the conquest of New York market - has released the seventh edition of the signature sneaker of Derrick Rose. The D-Rose 7 will have an innovative system of breathability, as well as a support to the ankles to strengthen the sock design, as well as the health of one of the finest diamond of the German brand.
#6 Air Jordan CP X
A small disappointment came from Jordan, and especially from the line dedicated to Chris Paul. In fact the signature sneaker of the Clippers playmaker did not convince again almost anyone and the three colors with which it was presented did not help a design that sounds a bit 'too confusing and not very distinctive.
#7 Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Shattered Backboard Away"
23 years ago Michael Jordan retires for the first time putting an end to his career on the court, but not to the continuous releases of his brand. To celebrate the anniversary, Jordan has released a new edition of the Shattered Backboard, a version of Air Jordan 1 (with reverse color pattern) that MJ wore during his first Italian tour, before he even set foot in the NBA.
