Ieri nella tarda serata italiana è arrivata una notizia che ha gettato nello sconforto tutti i tifosi dei Boston Celtics, ma anche i tifosi di altre squadre e tutti gli appasionati NBA: Kyrie Irving finisce qui la sua stagione - compresa di playoff - in quanto dovrà essere sottoposto a un intervento chirurgico al ginocchio. Come sempre, il primo a riportare la notizia su Twitter è stato l'insider di ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski, una delle voci più autorevoli del mondo NBA, lasciando poco spazio al dubbio che potesse trattarsi di una notizia incorretta.

La conferma è anche arrivata pochi minuti dopo dallo stesso Kyrie Irving, tramite il suo profilo Instagram. "A volte, la cosa più difficile da fare è controllare le cose incontrollabili che la vita ti lancia addosso", ha scritto il play dei Celtics. "In questo momento, scoprire di dovermi operare per un'infezione al ginocchio è il genere di cosa su cui non voglio rimuginare, accettandola e continuando a lavorare per gli obbiettivi che mi sono posto per me e per la squadra. Il viaggio per tornare sulla vetta del Monte Everest continua".

L'operazione avverrà sabato e servirà per rimuovere due viti dal ginocchio operato durante le Finals 2015, quando Irving soffrì di una frattura della rotula.
