Steph Curry on Trump: "He's an ass"
Warriors' point guard didn't hold back his opinion about US' new President
February 9th, 2017
In case you didn’t notice, in the United States, they’re not all happy about the new President, Donald Trump. Since when the tycoon walked into the White House - and even before, to be honest - in the States there’ve been the most disparate forms of protest. And if American citizens decided to walk down the streets to be heard, others, like NBA superstars, took advantage of their position to make some statements. And when we say superstars, we mean it.
Because LeBron James is someone that counts something in the NBA and when he speaks, his words go everywhere, like worldwide everywhere. And some days ago, during one of the many award ceremonies he has attended in the past few months, King James said his opinion about President Trump and the Muslim-ban, the order against the immigration of people from Muslim countries, considered terrorism-risky. "I am not in favor of this policy or any policy that divides and excludes people," he said. "I stand with the many, many Americans who believe this does not represent what the United States is all about. And we should continue to speak out about it.” The four times MVP already confirmed his will to not stay in Trump’s Hotels during his NBA travels.
And with an imaginary pass of the baton between an MVP and another, last night also Stephen Curry made a quite colorful statement about the President. Golden State’s point guard, in fact, responded to Under Armour’s CEO Kevin Plank’s words, the American brand that Curry endorses and which he has a contract with until 2024. Plank previously said: “To have such a pro-business president is something that is a real asset for the country”. Then, yesterday night, Curry responded: “I agree with that description,” he said, “if you remove the ‘et’ from asset”. Basically, Warriors’ number 30 called Trump an “ass” instead of an “asset”.
Curry, then, also said a few words about Under Armour’s leadership: “If there is a situation where I can look at myself in the mirror and say they don’t have my best intentions, they don’t have the right attitude about taking care of people. If I can say the leadership is not in line with my core values, then there is no amount of money, there is no platform I wouldn’t jump off if it wasn’t in line with who I am”. The two times MVP took a stance with Under Armour, which CEO was undoubtedly thoughtless, and this matter is probably far from over. And, on the other side, NBA took a position against Donald Trump once more, with two of the most representative and influential players of all.
