Kawhi Leonard, the sneakers free agent
According to reports, the Jordan brand wont offer another deal to the former Spurs, making him a free agent
July 25th, 2018
In the last weeks, the entire NBA was focused on only one single topic: Kawhi Leonard’s decisions. Whoever has followed the 2018 free agency even marginally knows how the former NBA Finals MVP’s will to leave the San Antonio Spurs kept the entire league on edge for entire weeks. Once found his new home with the Toronto Raptors - it’s still to be seen if it will be a permanent move or just a temporary step - Leonard is back into the free agency matters, this time regarding his sneakers.
In fact, according to multiple sources, Gregg Popovich’s former go-to guy could be really close to ending his relationship with the Jordan brand, as Nike’s division doesn’t seem willing to renew his contract, that is going to expire next October. In the last months, Leonard already turned down a 4-year/$22 million extension offer from Jordan brand, that now won’t probably put this amount of money back on the table. Or any kind of money, apparently. It’s not clear if the motivations are technical - but it’s unlikely, as Kawhi is still one of the 5 best players in the league - or more personal, as Leonard’s attitude towards the Spurs wasn’t appreciated by many people.
After making a strong 4 year / $22 Million extension offer to Kawhi Leonard earlier this year that was turned down, Jordan Brand plans to let Leonard walk this fall once his deal expires in October, according to industry sources.

In any case, Jordan could risk losing a unique player, that on his side will have to prepare another important decision, that could bring as many money as his deal with the Canadian franchise does. It’s always free agency time for Kawhi Leonard, even for sneakers.
