Five football matches to watch this weekend
Serie A is back, there's a tasty London derby and Sancho's BVB
January 18th, 2019
We put behind the Christmas parties, the Befana weekend but especially the endless days without the Serie A. But this period is about to end: this weekend they finally return to play all five top European leagues, as also the Bundesliga will come out of the long hibernation. Shortly, on the horizon there is the usual weekend in which you will have to invent excuses to reject your friends' invitations for afternoon walks or dinners to devote exclusively to football.
Real Madrid-Sevilla
when: Saturday 19/ at 4:15pm
where: Estadio Santiago Bernabéu/DAZN
To start the Saturday afternoon in the best way DAZN offers you the first match of the Liga gameweek, the clash between Real and Sevilla. Both teams have suffered a defeat in Copa del Rey and are far from Barça, and have more to look back on by the pursuers, the surprising Alaves for example. We are particularly curious to see Vinicius Junior at work, but in general to test the meringues' condition, never like this year too poor even at home. The first round match was 3-0 for the Andalusian team.
Red Bull Leipzig-Borussia Dortmund
when: Saturday 19/1 at 6:30pm
where: Red Bull Arena/SKY Sport
We missed a bit of the Bundesliga, and we missed Borussia Dortmund too, who started 2019 in first place and six points ahead of Bayern Munich. Will they be enough to bring home the league? To find out the Gialloneri will first have to overcome a tough trip like that of Leipzig. The game is definitely recommended for those who love young players: there are Sancho, Akanji and Zagadou on one side, Upamecano, Werner and Haidara on the other.
Arsenal-Chelsea
when: Saturday 19/1 at 6:30pm
where: Emirates Stadium/Sky Sport
As an alternative to Lispia-Borussia there is the London derby of the Premier League: Arsenal against Chelsea as well as a very heartfelt match is a challenge that even if it does not matter for the title is worth a lot, especially for the fourth place race. Both teams are back from recent problems: the Gunners are not shining as a few months ago and will have to deal with the lack of reliability defensive; the Blues instead have the opposite problem, that of scoring, but can count on a reassuring +6 in the standings. Will Emery put Cech (this is his last season) in the starting lineup against his former club?
Napoli-Lazio
when: Sunday 20/1 at 8:30pm
where: Stadio San Paolo/Sky Sport
We pass directly to the Sunday night match and precisely at the Naples' San Paolo where Ancelotti's boys face Lazio in the big match of the day. The first leg ended 2-1 for the Azzurri, but the last challenges between these teams show us that anything can really happen, since there have been no lack of goals and emotions. No Allan, Insigne and Koulibaly in the Napoli's squad.
St. Etienne-Olympique Lyonnais
when: Sunday 20/1 at 9pm
where: Geoffroy-Guichard/DAZN
The challenge between Verts and Kids is not only a high ranking match (St. Etienne is actually third with +2 over Lyon) but first of all the Rhône derby, one of Ligue 1's most heartfelt and fascinating matches. Besides the prestige of winning the match itself, the hosts will have the opportunity to detach the rivals in the long struggle for a place in the Champions League.
