GAFFER's exhibition about the football aesthetic over the last decade
The magazine curated the exhibition 'The Changing Face of Football'
December 13th, 2019
One of the most revolutionary decades in the world of football is about to end, marked by the massive admission of fashion in sports aesthetics and by its influence not only on the football culture, but also on the top clubs' strategies. To celebrate the past ten years with a precise focus at the latest connections between football, music, fashion and culture, GAFFER decided to document the changing face of football by paying tribute to iconic leaders, designers and collectibles who are changing the game for ever. And they did it through 'The Changing Face of Football', an exhibition curated directly by the English magazine scheduled in London for just two weeks at the new StockX drop-off pop-up shop held in the heart of Soho.
In addition to the covers of the recent magazines, including those that portray young exponents of the new wave of fashion applied to football, such as Christian Pulisic, João Felix, Victor Lindelof and Callum Hudson-Odoi, the exhibition concerns football jerseys, of course, all contained within the Jersey Room. GAFFER wanted to focus on their meaning and their "specific weight" towards the stylistic evolution of modern football. Among the jerseys that have most marked the decade there are two recent match kits like the first Jordan x Paris Saint-Germain shirt and that of Juventus, designed in collaboration with Palace, but also concepts such as the Golden Cabane football jerseys, the Blood In, Blood Out mash-ups and the Sophie Hird creations.
