Barcelona is selling any item from the Camp Nou
Corner flags, lockers, and penalty spot markers are part of the Memorabilia Project
January 8th, 2025
Between the soap opera Dani Olmo and the rumor regarding the alleged $100 million deal with the Qatari company for the purchase of VIP seat rights at the future Spotify Camp Nou (which is still under construction), Barcelona is going through a rather turbulent period. The club’s latest initiative, clearly in search of funds, is reportedly the dismantling of certain areas of the old Camp Nou in preparation for the ongoing renovation, which is expected to be completed by 2025. The new stadium will have a completely different look, and its capacity will increase from 99,354 to 111,000 seats, all covered. While Barcelona will continue to use the Olympic Lluís Companys Stadium on Montjuïc Hill, fans can still experience some of the atmosphere of the historic venue by participating in the auction organized by the auction house Goldin, which will launch the so-called Memorabilia Project. This is not the first time the Blaugrana club has partnered with Goldin, which previously sold major Barcelona memorabilia, such as the shirt worn by Leo Messi in the victory against Real Madrid in April 2017, a sticker signed by Lamine Yamal, and another sticker from Messi’s debut.
Among the most interesting memorabilia from Barcelona that can be found in the Memorabilia Project are seats from the old Camp Nou, the lockers of Messi, Ronaldinho, Neymar Jr., and Luis Suárez, pieces of turf with the penalty spot marker, as well as corner flags and framed items celebrating the club’s recent Champions League victories, the 1992 Wembley win and the 2009 Rome triumph. But that's not all: a collection of diamonds created from carbon extracted from the field of the last match played at Spotify Camp Nou before the renovation works began, against Mallorca on May 28, 2023, is also up for sale. Bidding for the items will start on January 23 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and will end on February 13 at 4:00 AM. Each item will have a starting minimum price for the bidding process.
This initiative from Barcelona is closely tied to the club's difficult financial situation, as it seeks a solution to manage the proportional salary cap rule and to reintegrate Dani Olmo into the squad. Forbes has estimated that the failure of this operation could result in Barcelona losing a total of around 263 million euros, considering both the lost revenue from a potential sale and the fire sale of the Camp Nou VIP seats, which in a less critical situation would likely have been worth twice as much.
