RCD Mallorca is changing the rules

Club restaurant, a nightclub, and the partnership with CAMPERLAB in Andy Kohlberg's plans

RCD Mallorca is changing the rules Club restaurant, a nightclub, and the partnership with CAMPERLAB in Andy Kohlberg's plans

A nightclub, Italian pizza on the sidelines, and a box with direct access to the locker rooms: RCD Mallorca wants to change the way it brings its fans, and not just them, to the stadium. Since American entrepreneur Andy Kohlberg took control of the Balearic club in June 2023, RCD Mallorca has revolutionized the stadium experience for fans and also for the 13 million foreign tourists visiting one of Europe's most popular destinations. The idea is to offer fans from all over the world a unique experience at the Son Moix stadium with some innovations for European football, inspired by American sports arenas, particularly American football. For example, there are VIP seats next to the coach's benches with dedicated boxes (for both the home and away teams) on either side of the tunnel leading to the locker rooms. A new way to admire the players up close before the match, but especially to see them even closer after the game, when the doors in front of the locker room exits open. The players can stop to pose for photos and sign autographs before entering the box where their families are waiting. Fans of RCD Mallorca and others in the stadium are thus just a few meters away from their idols, who, aside from sharing a few selfies, also share the same pitchside box.

Nightclub, food truck, and club restaurant

Just a few meters outside the box, behind the RCD Mallorca bench, after the game a very special food truck is set up serving slices of Italian pizza that can be eaten directly on the pitch, while the groundskeepers repair the turf after the match. And that’s not all: a club restaurant behind the left side stand, with seats where you can enjoy the game before or after your meal. Over the weekend, the restaurant will also transform into a nightclub, aiming to compete with the island’s venues that have turned RCD Mallorca into a tourist hotspot for young people from all over Europe. The idea is to combine tourism, the island's main economic resource, with stadium services, which has been made possible especially by the investments following the agreement between La Liga and the British fund CVC Capital Partners. The agreement, called Plan Impulso, signed by President Javier Tebas in 2021, was opposed in particular by Real Madrid and Barcelona, who refused to sign it, but it has greatly helped smaller clubs, including RCD Mallorca, which received about 28 million euros. The deal includes nearly two billion euros for clubs that signed on, in exchange for 8.2% of La Liga's total business over the next fifty years.

CAMPERLAB as fashion partner

In addition to investments in the stadium, RCD Mallorca is working to improve its facilities at the youth level. After difficult years, the club is now achieving great results, such as last season's Copa del Rey final, which was lost only on penalties against Bilbao, but which still earned a spot in the Spanish Super Cup, where they were eliminated in the semifinals by Real Madrid just days ago. In Saudi Arabia, for the Super Cup, RCD Mallorca's players wore CAMPERLAB clothing for the first time, following the announcement of the collaboration between the club and the brand founded in 1975 on the Balearic Islands, now led by Achilles Ion Gabriel as creative director of CAMPER's experimental side-brand.

RCD Mallorca wants to change its image, making it more international, not only through on-field results but also through initiatives to attract new fans to the stadium. This innovative idea is similar to what Como is doing in Serie A, Besides appointing Rhuigi Villaseñor as creative director, it invests in various off-the-pitch activities such as live music shows, and invites Hollywood actors to the stands every Sunday, such as Andrew Garfield and Adrien Brody. In the Como multiverse, Keira Knightley celebrated a goal by Alessandro Gabrielloni on December 16. In the Como multiverse, Keira Knightley celebrated a goal by Alessandro Gabrielloni on December 16. Just like Como, where football legends like Cesc Fàbregas and Thierry Henry invested years ago, RCD Mallorca also has international investors, such as former NBA player Steve Nash and the current coach of the Golden State Warriors and the U.S. national basketball team, Steve Kerr. In short, the eyes of the world are on RCD Mallorca, which year after year is building a project to become more than just a small club in the Balearics, known mainly for being the place where the talent of Samuel Eto’o first shone, depicted in a mural at the main entrance of Son Moix.
