adidas x David Beckham Capsule Collection

“In 1992, adidas received a handwritten letter from a young 18-year old footballer. That footballer was David Beckham”. That’s how the promotional video realized by the Three Stripes to celebrate the almost 25 year-long collaboration between the Herzogenaurach-based brand and the “Spice Boy”, now become a global icon and adidas’ world ambassador, begins. The adidas x David Beckham Capsule Collection celebrates this lucky collaboration with a remastered version of the “shoe of a generation”, the Predator Accelerator.

“When I look back at the best moments of my career”, said Beckham himself, “the one defining theme of them all is the adidas Predator. It has always been there, helping me play my best when it mattered most. That’s why when adidas offered me the chance to design an updated version of the boot for on-pitch, in the cage and on the street, I absolutely jumped at the chance”. The new Predator Accelerator, in fact, will be sold in all three versions - as usual of Three Stripes’ latest releases - each with its own recalls to particular moments in Sir David’s career.

Beckham himself, in fact, contributed to the realization fo this collection, participating in meeting in London and at adidas’ HQ in Germany. England former captain ha first defined the Accelerator as his favorite shoe and then chose black, red, and white as the most important colors of his career. The result was a collection that celebrated these colors – a triple-white ‘Stadium’ boot, triple-black ‘Street’ shoe and triple-red ‘Cage’ shoe. Beckham wore the Predator Accelerator for the most part of his career, writing the history of both England National Team and the clubs he played for. So, Becks chose some of these defining moments, embroidering them on the three shoes’ collars.

His three shirt numbers, synonyms of the steps of his career, are reported on the heels of the three shoes, 23 on the triple-white ‘Stadium’ boot, 32 on the triple-black ‘Street’ shoe and the legendary number 7 on the triple-red ‘Cage’ shoe. The classic lettering of the original Predator has been used to write Beckham’s name upon the numbers, dipping this capsule with a touch - not so light - of nostalgia.
